My motive when creating art is to connect with the spirit of the audience as I
reach from my Christian roots to express the events of life. Coming from an addictive background, where I nearly lost everything to substance abuse and bad
relationships, I want to caution as well as inspire those observing my artwork.
When telling my story through my artwork, I want a piece of my life to be carried in the hearts of people within the gallery and as they leave. This is not the single focus of my artwork, as I intend to use the gift of artistic expression as a way to create freedom in my art therapy clients.
My personal freedom through art therapy is gained in the emotion of cutting through barriers of life expressed as a metaphor as I split apart canvases revealing varying images that symbolize my hope. I benefit from working with mixed media because, as an art therapist student, I create in order to gain a therapeutic goal.
Ripping, nailing, gluing, and sculpting allow me to put my emotion into the piece and model how others can use art therapy to improve themselves. The hope is that through observation and self-reflection my artwork can inspire others to create artworks for themselves as an act of personal revelation.
